Review: Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up

Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up

After their victory in the Super Secret Crisis War, the Powerpuff Girls take it easy with a rare VIP tour of Dexter’s Laboratory! But when tag-along Dee Dee accidentally activates Dexter’s newest invention, the fate of the entire multiverse is suddenly at stake! A dimensions-spanning epic into the worlds of Courage The Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, and Dexter's Laboratory!

Remember my Super Secret Crisis War review? Well I liked that one so obviously I knew I HAD to read Super Smash-Up when it popped up in my NetGalley Graphic Novels list.

In Super Secret Crisis War, Aku (the demon in Samurai Jack) created the League of Extraordinary Villains, joined by Mandark, Mojo-Jojo and the bad guy from Ben 10. Their plan is to rule the worlds where the characters from Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Ed, Edd & Eddy live in - or destroy them if the heroes won't cooperate.

In Super Smash-Up, Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup together with Professor Utonium make a visit to Dexter's Laboratory, bringing him a sample of Chemical X for him to test it. While Dexter and the Professor are engaged in scientific discussions, the Powerpuff Girls meet Dee Dee, who does what Dee Dee does best: she does a little number of ballet, trips and meets Chemical X, which turns her into a monster. And because this is not enough chaos, she starts traveling to other cartoon universes, while the Powerpuff Girls are looking for her to get her back to normal and home. This is a great opportunity for us to be nostalgic about Courage The Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and Camp Lazlo. I don't know about you, but I grew up with this cartoons and crossover episodes were the best thing ever.

So yeah, the story IS predictable, especially if you are so accustomed to these characters as I am, but it still is fun to read. There was one thing which bugged me however, a scene in which the parents in Cow and Chicken tell them to go with strangers if they offer them money. Now I don't remember if this is how they were in the cartoon, but in any case, considering the fact that this could get into the hands of kids who aren't old enough to judge on their own, a warning on the bottom of the page at least would've been a great idea.

  1. Grafica mi se pare absolut genială, ix ca în desenele animate şi iubesc că au pus mai multe personaje de care mă lipisem când eram copil.
