The Truth of Lies starts with the main character Amelie waking up in the middle of nature, alone, with no idea who she is or how she got there, knowing only her name. She realizes she is running away from something though, and after she is found by a woman claiming to be her friend and taken home by her husband - the future King of the Air Kingdom, some of her memories begin to come back to her, and she seems to have a past with the Prince of the Earth Kingdom.
It is soon clear that she is either lied to by some of these people or at the very least, information is held out from her.
For my tour stop, I wanted to go for a classic review, but as life tends to get in the way and an exam looming over me next week, I found myself unable to finish the book quite on time. I enjoy reading books where you get to discover the truth along with the character, and I am very curious about how the book is going to continue, I have currently read the first third of it.
Sometimes when things go wrong and you find yourself having to go for a different plan, things turn out better than expected. I was inspired by the book's cover, there seems to be a trend in covers lately, featuring characters surrounded by foliage, and I have always wanted to try to recreate a cover, so here is my first attempt and how I went about it.

The first step, of course, is to analyze the cover and figure out how you can obtain the necessary elements without having to invest, using only what you have. In my case, I needed the hand of a woman and a man representing the main characters, so since I own a quite good-looking pair of female hands, I went about to kidnap my partner for the Fae male protagonist.
Now the engagement ring part was quite tricky since someone is taking their slow time proposing haha, so I just used a silver ring with a white stone that I happened to own.
The next big element was the foliage. Since I live in an apartment and had no interest in going out to find forest-looking foliage, I went for a bunch of Carolina Reaper pots that we grow and stacked them so they looked dense enough.

The next logical step is to take a few pictures until you manage to get one that is as similar as you can to the posing on the original cover. Here is our best take:

Edit the colors and lighting so that it is similar to the original cover's vibe. I used the free version of the Lightroom phone app to stay budget-friendly, and there are a lot of other free options available depending on what devices you have.

Add the cover title, author, and whatever other text necessary, and Voila! I know it's a far cry from perfect, but I am quite pleased with the result I managed to get while staying on a free budget. Have you ever tried to recreate a cover? How did you approach this endeavor?
